[ 925. Canada Day 10: Shopping Spree ]
Oh my goodness.... West Edmonton Mall is HUGH! Containing over 800 shops and 2 mini-themeparks, and countless indoor entertainment including an ice-skating rink in the middle of the mall, they are like... unshoppable in a day! Hahaha... yes, yesterday was the mid-exercise R&R, we didn't have much of a time to do our R&R at the end of the trip you see and since we had time to burn for this weekend, why not? But gosh, i spent a hell lot of money yesterday: C$200 to be exact! It's like... i realize i shopped a bit too much when i'm down to my last 2 hundred bucks notes. Hahahaha.
Left the motel to embark on the 300km bus ride back to edmonton on saturday morning, dropping of halfway because gary needed to pee. Found this really nice homemade toffee sweets, and bought a pack to try first. And boy it was delicious! Will scout for more to bring back to singapore as sovenirs. Muahaha. After all, they are rather cheap, ok, relatively cheap. The bus driver was really nice. He suggested dropping us at the mall first, then pick us up later in the day when we guys are done. Initially CO suggested going to check in at five first, but in the end, heck with it- we shopped all the way till closing time!
Exploring the mall was a tidious task. Initially the group of operators, myself and sgt ben were in a group. First stop: Levi's! And levi's was actually having a sale on quite a lot of their jeans! Alas, their newest 501s (those wash off kinds) are not on sale. Damn that. But well, a 529 would have sufficed for me! C$49.99 for a pair equals to S$73, including taxes! That's like almost 50 bucks off any regular priced item in singapore! Later on after lunch, me and ben just broke off from group and went on a splurge mode almost anyway. Went to get a shirt and slips for bro, a shirt for myself, a few souvenirs for my friends, and something for her. Still not complete with my sovenirs shopping, but well, i'll see what i can do. Haha. So here's an estimate of my expenses yesterday:
my stuff (jeans, belt, etc) = $80
food = $38
sovenirs = $70
taxes = $12
total = $200
Gosh, i paid that much in taxes. And apparently, you can only claim GST refunds for receipts with a total of 50 bucks and above only. Argh.... And i don't think you can claim for food, and any other stuff you consume in here. Dammit. Ok, let's forget about taxes. And get back to the mall. We found this chinese supermarket and we were delighted! Gosh, it's been so long since we last saw something cheena. Well, i personally wasn't very interested due to my unfortunate encounter with chinese food on the 2nd day of my trip. Hahaha. Well, we went into the supermarket and shopped! Went for the instant noodles, which will be most likely what i'll be living on for the next few days. Come to think of it, i'm actually not that broke, that just i'm down to my last couple of hundred dollar bills and i don't exactly feel comfortable with that given that i'll be here for another 8 days or so. Gosh, may God bless me with prudence. Hahah. I even had buskin robbins ice-cream! It's $3.50 for 2 scoops, and it's really nice! Though they displayed the nutritional facts there (i.e. how fat it's gonna be) but i didn't care. I'm not going to care if i'm coming back looking like a pig, but all i know is that i'll have to run so much more when i get back to singapore. Muahahaha. Sadly, i couldn't bring my camera out with me this morning as i needed to charge my battery. So well, photos the nexst time round!
